This dude has me lost and confused. I need help with what I should do! Please give me some answers!?

So I've been texting this guy. He admitted to me that he has a crush on me and told me why and said he wanted to get to know me better, well I didn't respond to it how I should have. I didn't really say anything. I DO have a crush on him too, but I am a REALLY SHY person, so I was too shy to fess up (like an idiot) gosh. So just when I finally was about to tell him how I feel, he said we shouldn't talk anymore, because he got in trouble. Dude WTF does that mean?!?! I don't know if he's in a relationship, or if it is because one of his best friends like me. I don't like his friend, I like him. And ya I feel bad for not sharing the other guys feelings, but I'm just lost...Or I don't know maybe he changed his mind about me, which would suck...All this has me really confused, it's all I think about, and I feel something like lovesick. .PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
