Your employer that you have a child a bad thing?

My girlfriend recently told me that If I ever run into any of her coworkers ,not for to tell them that she has a child. Why would she lie about something like that? I told her to fess up to her employer and to be honest, but she said she doesnt want them to know. I think its dishonesty. Whats your opinion?
